Today is World Oceans Day, a day to celebrate our connection to the ocean. Aside from the Vancouver Aquarium, which is hosting a great line-up of World Oceans Day events, no one is celebrating the day in more style than Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver and its signature restaurant YEW restaurant + bar, the newest partner of Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise program.

The Aquarium partnered with Four Seasons to unveil a 5’ art installation of a large-scale prawn, a symbol demonstrating that small things are becoming huge problems in today’s overfished oceans. The prawn, created and developed by local Vancouver artists, will be on display in the lobby of Four Seasons through June 27.

As part of getting the public “Ocean Wise”, the Aquarium’s aquarists are bringing the sea to “YEW”. Marine education staff and volunteers will be in the hotel lobby from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday and invite guests and visitors to experience the connection we all have with our oceans, and the impact that people have on marine life.

Tonight, Executive Chef Ned Bell will be serving up a delicious Ocean Wise dinner at YEW restaurant + bar, with partial proceeds benefiting Ocean Wise. More information on the sumptuous dinner can be found here.

We all can do a small part in helping to protect our oceans. Look for the Ocean Wise symbol next to a seafood item for the Vancouver Aquarium’s assurance of an ocean-friendly seafood choice.

It’s not every day you get to witness a large-scale prawn or live sea creatures in a hotel lobby, so hopefully you’ll get the chance to experience this for yourself!
