It’s been a very exciting week for us here at the Vancouver Aquarium. We are very proud to announce that the Aquarium has received two separate awards that recognize the hard work of our staff, and the value of our programs.

2012 Interpretation Canada Awards of Excellence

For the first time in the Aquarium’s history, the Interpretive Delivery team has been awarded the Silver Medal in outstanding personal-interpretive programs by Interpretation Canada for its Beluga Show. This award recognizes excellence in “cultural, natural, and historical interpretation,” and award entries were evaluated for “substance, originality, and achievement of interpretation objectives.” This award also marks the first time that the Vancouver Aquarium has received an award in the interpretation category. We are extremely proud of our Interpretive Delivery team!

The major theme of the Beluga Show is that no matter where you are in the world, your life and the lives of belugas are intimately connected. Beluga whales and humans interact in many different ways around the world, from the Arctic to the St. Lawrence to aquariums and research facilities. In each of these areas, the impacts that we have on each other vary but are always important.

Come see the interpretive delivery team’s excellence in action at our Beluga Shows.

2012 CAZA Awards

We are also very proud to announce that the Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise program has been awarded the Peter Karsten Conservation Award, awarded by the Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums, which recognizes individual or institutional achievement in conservation education, green operations, habitat preservation, species restoration or support for biodiversity.

This award comes in time for us to celebrate Ocean Wise month in November, a month dedicated to raising awareness about sustainable seafood choices.

Come celebrate with us and support sustainable seafood during Ocean Wise month at our  2012 Ocean Wise Chowder Chowdown competition in Toronto and Vancouver on November 21.

We’d like to congratulate our Interpretive Delivery and Ocean Wise teams for their hard work and dedication.
