We are proud to announce that our Snappz application for mobile phones was publicly recognized at The Host 2012 BC Tourism & Hospitality Awards last week.

The Vancouver Aquarium’s innovative Snappz application, which aims to enrich our visitors’ experience, has been granted the T4G Limited Innovation in Technology Award. This prestigious award recognizes a company or organization that has implemented technology within the tourism and hospitality industry in an innovative way to enable their business to succeed in British Columbia.

Don’t know what Snappz is? If you’ve visited the Vancouver Aquarium within the last year, you might have noticed specific signs around the galleries (see feature photo). Those “Snappz Tags” with QR codes provide mobile phone access to our app called “Snappz: Vancouver Aquarium,” an interactive treasure hunt game that delivers a fun and educational experience to our visitors.

Look for Snappz tags throughout the Aquarium to unlock quizzes, challenges and photo opportunities and redeem prizes. Photo credit: Vancouver Aquarium.

Snappz is a great way for you and your family to discover some of the secrets of the Aquarium – by scanning the Snappz tags around the Aquarium, you’ll be able to unlock quizzes, challenges and photo opportunities that will allow you to collect enough points to receive a prize at our Subshop, which is on the lower level next to our “Frogs Forever?” exhibit.

Make sure to download our free, award-winning app before your next visit to the Vancouver Aquarium to experience the Aquarium on a whole new dimension! You can download the app either on iTunes or Google Play.
