The cold months of winter are approaching, and nothing helps keep our bodies feeling warm and fuzzy better than a full stomach.

And just in time too, as the Vancouver Aquarium is celebrating November as Ocean Wise™ month. With over 500 partners, Ocean Wise is Vancouver Aquarium’s national seafood conservation program dedicated to educate and empower consumers on issues concerning sustainable seafood.

13-785-Gastropost-logo-with-Food-Mission[1]To help support this initiative, Gastropost – a multimedia blog for food lovershas joined the movement and partnered with Ocean Wise™ for an exciting eating “mission” this month in Vancouver and Toronto.

Gastropost helps people share their food experiences with friends and a larger community. These adventurous Gastroposters, always hungry to feast their eyes on beautiful dishes and find new ways to excite their tastebuds, are assigned a weekly food “mission.” Starting today through Nov. 13, in honour of Ocean Wise™ month, Gastroposters are encouraged to participate in the Ocean Wise mission of taking photos of sustainable Ocean Wise seafood dishes they will be eating (marked on menus and markets with the Ocean Wise symbol).

Participants just need to follow Gastropost on Twitter or Instagram, post their food pictures, and tag them with hashtags #oceanwise and #gastropost. Select photos will get a chance to appear in the Saturday editions of National Post in Toronto or theVancouver Sun or The Province in Vancouver. If social media isn’t your cup of tea, you can post them directly to Gastropost – either on the Vancouver and Toronto pages.

When you post your scrumptious pictures with the hashtags, you’ll also be entered into a draw for some great food-related (why would it be anything else?) prizes.

Vancouver Gastroposters are entered into a draw for a $100 gift certificate to a tasty dining experience at YEW seafood + bar at Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver. In Toronto, Gastroposters are entered into a draw for two tickets to Toronto’s Ocean Wise Chowder Chowdown, taking place on Nov. 19.

And speaking of which – the Ocean Wise Chowder Chowdown is an annual event that pits top chefs from Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver in a head-to-head competition to create delicious, original recipe chowders with sustainable seafood. Taste all the delectable chowders, paired with local craft beers, and vote for your favourite! Tickets are still available for the Calgary and Toronto events at vanaqua.org/chowdown.
