When it comes to planning a celebration, gathering, or conference at the Vancouver Aquarium, the sky’s the limit. Our recent expansion has left us bubbling over with new options, from birthday parties to sit-down wedding dinners for 640, all with a magical backdrop of 50,000 sea creatures.

With our new spaces, we can help you plan a cocktail party for up to 2,400 people, a standing buffet for up to 1,800, or smaller-sized events. Our Waterfall Café, Ocean Courtyard, Teck Connections Gallery and the lower-level Teck Engagement Gallery and changing exhibits space are all new areas with unlimited potential for social occasions.

“There are a lot of really unique things that can be done,” says Shawna Little, the Aquarium’s sales manager, noting that professional event planners on staff to help you achieve your dream event. She notes that as long as the well-being of the animals remains the top priority, “we’re willing to be pretty creative with people.”

With a living aquatic backdrop, events at the Aquarium are truly one of a kind.

Because the Aquarium is famous around the world, international conference-planners see hosting an evening here as a major highlight. It helps that we’re located within easy walking distance of the Convention Centre and we’re a hop, skip and a jump from many downtown hotels.

But it’s our living aquatic backdrop that really sets us apart. Aquarium parties aren’t static events, where people are expected to stay glued to their seats. Exploring our galleries is essential to the experience, and with that, special programming to suit the event can be arranged.

One popular spot for parties is the underwater Arctic gallery, which offers an indoor view of our beloved belugas and is a gorgeous choice for wedding receptions. If, as is the case with some South Asian weddings, the bride and groom expect hundreds of guests, then there’s the option of a sit-down dinner for up to 640, spread over several galleries.

And we’re immensely proud of our party fare. The Aquarium’s new executive chef, Tim Bedford, committed to Ocean Wise and sustainable practices, hails from the Fairmont Empress Hotel, so our West Coast cuisine is upscale and contemporary enough for even the foodiest guest.

Beyond the excitement of sharing your festivities with fascinating fish, reptiles and mammals, by booking one of the Aquarium’s spaces, you help support our many conservation, research and education initiatives, including our Marine Mammal Rescue Centre, Ocean Wise™, Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup™ and B.C. Cetacean Sightings Network.

With any night of the week available for bookings of Aquarium spaces, it’s no wonder that reservations are being made a year in advance. Got a party you’d like to host here? Visit our website.
