The Vancouver Aquarium is proud to be a recipient of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) Nature Play grant. Supported through a special gift from the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund, these competitive grants, selected through a rigorous review by a panel of industry experts, are being presented to accredited zoos and aquariums to encourage family nature play and conservation education.

The Vancouver Aquarium will utilize this grant to develop the Home Learner Partnership program – a new initiative to help engage home learners in developing a greater understanding of the outdoors and conservation issues in British Columbia.

The AZA Nature Play grant allows us the opportunity to work to support family learning through innovative and educational activities both on and off-site. We will now have the resources to foster strong community connections between home learners, the Vancouver Aquarium and local community partners.

The Nature Play grant was distributed to 30 top zoos and aquariums across North America, totaling more than $200,000 in awards. The Vancouver Aquarium was the only institution in Canada to receive the grant.

The Vancouver Aquarium is a non-profit society dedicated to the conservation of aquatic life. In 2013, we operated 37 active research programs, rescued and released over 100 marine mammals and delivered 611 award winning school programs. If you think that makes us one of the best aquariums in North America, vote for us in USA Today’s 10 Best Reader’s Choice awards. Voting open now until August 18, with one vote per day permitted.
