Last week, the Chinese Restaurant Awards and Vancouver Aquarium Ocean Wise program held East Meets West, a spectacular nine course collaborative feast at Dynasty Seafood Restaurant showcasing the extensive range of sustainable seafood in Chinese cuisine.
With Chinese master chef Sam Leung from Dynasty and Ocean Wise executive chef Ned Bell in the same kitchen, guests got to enjoy the best of sustainable seafood and Chinese cuisine. Chef Leung is known for reinventing Cantonese cuisine in Vancouver, having won several Chinese Restaurant Awards in the past seven years. And chef Bell is widely celebrated as one of the leading global sustainable seafood advocates.
With hundreds of Chinese restaurants across the city, Vancouver is consistently recognized for some of the best Chinese food in the world. There is a deep connection to local sustainable seafood, with many restaurants carrying live tanks regularly stocked with B.C. Dungeness crab and local, land-raised tilapia.
Over the course of the night, 130 guests enjoyed Ocean Wise creations including B.C. geoduck, Alaskan king crab, B.C. Dungeness crab, and land-raised sturgeon from Northern Divine in Sechelt, B.C.
In partnership with the Chinese Restaurant Awards, Ocean Wise continues to reach and engage more restaurants and consumers about the importance of sustainable seafood. Ocean Wise also aims to increase awareness and accessibility across cultures, cuisines and price points. Look out for announcements as we begin developing the first Best Ocean Wise Seafood Award as part of the Chinese Restaurant Awards.
