Vancouver Aquarium Ocean Wise is thrilled to announce Maji Taiwanese Stir Fry as the first recipient of our Ocean Wise Sustainable Seafood Award at this year’s Chinese Restaurant Awards.

Over the past several months, Ocean Wise has been working in partnership with the Chinese Restaurant Awards to highlight sustainable seafood and the best of Chinese and Taiwanese cuisine in Vancouver. In December, we had the opportunity to participate in the Chinese Restaurant Awards’ East Meets West event. The nine-course collaborative feast featured 100% Ocean Wise seafood expertly prepared by Chinese master chef Sam Leung from Dynasty Seafood Restaurant and our very own Ocean Wise executive chef Ned Bell.

While East Meets West delivered an incredible banquet-worthy seafood experience, there is another side of the spectrum to Chinese and Taiwanese cuisine that caters to the more casual diners. Maji Taiwanese Stir Fry is a perfect example – with popular dishes such as basil clams and deep-fried oysters, they have won Chinese Restaurant Awards’ Diners’ Choice Award for Best Taiwanese Restaurant in the past.

With a recommendation from the Chinese Restaurant Awards, Ocean Wise worked closely with Maji to assess and highlight their Ocean Wise options. Maji became an official Ocean Wise partner in February but demonstrated an eagerness to learn and become a leader from the beginning. Maji embraced creating several new Ocean Wise dishes; their new menu now includes an introduction to Ocean Wise and the importance of sustainable seafood in an effort to educate their guests. In February, we co-hosted a sneak peek of Maji’s new Ocean Wise menu with the Chinese Restaurant Awards. And in March, their popular Five Flavour Mussel Salad, using Ocean Mama Seafood mussels, was featured as a tasting plate at this year’s Chinese Restaurant Awards ceremony.
