World Oceans Day is just around the corner! Are you ready for June 8th? In order to make a real splash, the Ocean Wise Seafood team has decided to celebrate all month long by turning June into World Oceans Month!

Here’s how to celebrate the great big blue during World Oceans Month:

One: Choose Ocean Wise Seafood

When purchasing seafood in grocery stores, online or on a restaurant take-out menu, look for the Ocean Wise Seafood symbol for our assurance of an ocean friendly choice. Sustainable seafood can be defined as species that are caught or farmed in a way that ensures the long-term health and stability of that species. The Ocean Wise Seafood program helps to ensure that ocean life will be abundant for generations to come. And if you are feeling adventurous why not try cooking with something new like kelp!? Farmed kelp is an excellent sustainable seafood option with very little impact on the surrounding environment! Here is an fantastic and easy recipe to follow by long time Ocean Wise Seafood supporter, and former Ocean Wise Seafood Executive Chef, Ned Bell!

Two: Support Ocean Wise Seafood Partners

During this difficult and unprecedented time, it is important that we continue to support the local businesses that we know and love. We encourage you to continue to support Ocean Wise Seafood partners committed to sourcing sustainable seafood for their customers. Find a partner near you using the Ocean Wise Seafood partner map. With over 750 partners across Canada, covering thousands of locations, finding sustainable seafood options has never been easier.
